Many homes have at least one sliding door leading to the backyard, a balcony, deck or patio. While vertical blinds are the traditional choice for these large windows, there are actually many choices for decorating your patio door. If your patio door slides side to side, you'll usually want a window treatment that also operates side to side. With the wide variety of window treatments that operate this way, it's easy to coordinate with your decor and with the other window coverings in your home. For example, many fabrics choices for panel track blinds are also available as roller shades or roman shades. Cellular shades are also available in a vertical style, providing a coordinating look.

Once you choose the style of window treatment for your sliding door, you'll need to consider how you want the blind to operate and look on the wall. Vertically oriented blinds can stack to the right, the left, or can even open from the middle and stack on either side. You'll typically want to match the way your window opens.
