Yes, There Are Things Better Than Candy Galore.
Candy is tasty, but offers very little nutritional benefit, it’s bad for the teeth and may cause that dreaded tummy ache if too much is eaten. So if you’re looking for some alternatives to candy this Halloween, here’s what we are going to give out to trick or treaters this year at Blindsgalore:
Pumpkin Seeds - Save those Jack O’ Lantern seeds, not to mention are they a yummy snack but even the kids will love them. Here’s how to prepare and cook your pumpkin seeds. First, rinse the seeds and let them dry out (add salt if you like). After the seeds are dry, just drizzle some melted butter on top and place in a microwave or saute pan until seeds are a light golden color.
Nuts and Trail Mixes – you can get small packs of these treats and they’ll provide the satisfaction of a sweet treat, but they’re much healthier than candy!
Popcorn - Popcorn, really? Yes! Sprinkle with a little Parmesan Reggiano and cayenne and you’re good to go.
Sweets with Xylitol - Try to find some treats that are sweetened with xylitol http://www.xylitol.org/ . It tastes just as good as sugar, but is much healthier because it doesn’t cause blood sugar issues and it is even good for the teeth. Xylitol also contains 40% fewer calories than sugar!
