I am always looking at windows, hey, that’s what I do, and I am constantly dreaming of new ways to excite you about what you choose to cover your windows. But today, I’m looking out my windows and now that summer is on the rise, the skies are layered in a purple haze and the trees are lush in verdant green.
The flowers are still summer fresh, bobbing in color and the light and beauty instantly calm me and I am refreshed and invigorated.
A new study on brain waves confirms that encounters with “green spaces” actually reset the brain and attention fatigue and stress are reduced. The restorative effect of these tranquil, nature induced brain waves allow your mind to be renewed from the frenetic noise and the hectic pace of living in urban places and working in crowded spaces. If you live near parks and trees, studies show that you also have lower levels of cortisol, one of our stress hormones.
So, if you are feeling flighty, a bit on edge, can’t seem to focus or finish a project, or your kids’ constant babbling is giving you a headache, get up and go for a short walk.
Or, if you are like me, roll up those shades, throw open the drapes, pull open the shutters, push back your vertical blinds and let the light in, gaze out the window and breathe in the great green stuff of life.
Take a short “brain vacation” and your whole body will luxuriate in a few moments of de-stress to get you back on track.
