In many cases, using blackout honeycomb shades for window blackout provides a few advantages over other options. For inside-mount windows, honeycomb blackout shades (also called cellular blackout shades) do a better job at blocking light seepage around the edges of the shade than other types. This is due to the way the shade is mounted to the window frame and to a lesser extent, the construction of the shade itself.
In terms of mounting a blackout cellular shade, there is no hardware required on the sides of the material, as there is for roller shades, allowing the material itself to be wider. Also, the cellular shade’s honeycomb design has more physical depth than a single vertical shade, reducing light ‘bounce’ around the edges.
