Horizontal blinds are a common style of window blinds, and it is the common name for any blind that has horizontal slats that can be rotated open or closed.  The slats of these window blinds can also be raised up and down to provide a clear view out the window.  Horizontal blinds are typically made from either wood, faux wood, aluminum or vinyl, and these materials are used as the common names for the blinds which are made from them.  This includes wood blinds, faux wood blinds, aluminum blinds and vinyl blinds.  These last two are typically grouped under the name mini blinds.

Horizontal blinds are one of the most versatile types of window coverings because they offer many options for privacy and light control.  Simply rotate the stats closed for complete privacy and excellent light blocking.  Or rotate them open and you can enjoy your view out the window without having to raise the blinds all the way up.  You can also rotate the slats of your horizontal blinds upward slightly but not all the way closed to still allow in plenty of light while maintaining privacy.
