Window Treatments for Large Windows

Choosing a window treatment for a large window can sometimes be a challenge.  Whether your window is very wide, very tall or both, this section features some ideas and tips for finding a window blind that's right for your large picture window.

A vertical window treatment, such as a vertical blind or panel track sliding blind, usually works best on windows that are wider than they are tall, and add height and formality to a room.  Horizontal window treatments on the other hand, such as cellular shades and wood blinds, work best on windows that are taller than they are wide, and enhance a cozy and casual decor.

You'll want to find a window treatment that can cover the size of your window while still providing the light control, privacy and functionality you're looking for.  For example, cordless cellular shades are a safe choice for children and pets, but are difficult to operate on very tall windows (consider motorized shades instead).  Also, wood blinds are very heavy and are not a good choice for large windows where the blind needs to be raised often.
