Certain rooms, such as bedrooms, bathrooms, and those facing the street or a neighbor, require privacy window treatments.  Such a window treatment should be opaque enough to prevent view-through even when backlit so that at the most only vague shadows are visible from the outside.  We have created this collection of window treatments that provide privacy with an opaque material or with an option such as a liner or routeless slats.  These products will block view-through, but not necessarily all light - for products that provide total blackout light control, please visit our blackout products page.

You may want to be selective as to when you want privacy and when you want to have the window uncovered and allow in light.  To balance these needs, consider layering your window treatments, such as a light filtering shade combined with drapery.  Choosing a product with a top down/bottom up option is also a great option for balancing lighting and privacy needs.

The horizontal slats on wood blinds, faux woods, minis and shutters can be tilted upwards to allow light in while maintaining privacy.  We also recommend mounting hobbled or looped style roman shades outside of the window frame with plenty of overlap on the wall to prevent view-through on the sides of the shade.
