step 3

Select a mount option:

Learn more about mount

Mount refers to whether the treatment will be mounted within the window frame (inside mount) or on the wall surrounding the window (outside mount).

For an inside mount, please provide us with the exact dimensions of the window frame.  Any deductions to the size of your shade will be made by the manufacturer.

For an outside mount, please enter the width and height of the window-covering itself.  We recommend adding at least 4 inches to the width of the window, and 4 inches to the height of the window.  This will allow for proper overlap with the wall.

Inside

Inside

?

Inside mount blinds will fit within the window casing for a clean, custom look.  Enter the actual size of your window casing, NOT the size of your old blind.  We will make the necessary deductions to make the blind fit properly.  Make sure your window meets the minimum inside mount specifications, or flush mount specifications if desired.

?

Outside mount blinds will be installed on the wall above the window, covering the window entirely.  Enter the size you want the finished product to be, including the desired overlap beyond the window.  The ordered height will include the hardware for blinds and shades.  The width of the headrail may be slightly wider than the ordered width to accomodate operating controls and valance returns.  The outside mount option is required if your window is not deep enough to install the blind as an inside mount.

step 5

Select a frame option:

Learn more about frames

The shutter frame is the outside edge that attaches to your window or wall; the shutter panels in turn attach to the frame.  The type of frame selected is dependent on the function and style desired; some frame styles double as decorative molding, others are less noticeable, while others provide extra depth to help clear window handles and other obstructions.  Please make sure you have answered the questions regarding your existing window before selecting a frame style.  These questions will help match the appropriate frame to your window.  Please review our shutter measure and order guide for more information.

step 6

Select a tilt option:

Learn more about tilt

The position (and type of mechanism, if applicable) of the control that tilts the slats of the blind open and closed.  It is usually most convenient to have the tilt control and the lift control on opposite sides of the blind.

?

Select the 2-Sides option if using mounting strips; or more rarely used for cafe-style shutters on a window with a protruding sill.

?

For windows with a protruding sill.  The bottom of each frame side will be finished flat to sit on the sill.  Not available with mounting strip.

?

Most typical selection - provides a complete finished look and maximum stability.  Not available with mounting strip.

step 8

Select a number of panels option:

Learn more about panels

For each type of shutter you will need to specify how the shutters will attach to the frame and to each other.  When looking at the shutter from inside the home the folds are listed from Left to Right.  L or R designates the side the hinges are located.  For example "LLTRR" means the left two panels are hinged to each other on the left and the right two shutters are hinged to each other on the right hand side; the panel sections are separated by a T Post.  If you have any questions, call us toll-free at 1 (877) 702-5463 and speak with one of our knowledgeable sales staff or read our shutter guide for additional details on panel folds.

step 9

Select a divider rail option:

Learn more about divider rail

Horizontal section of the shutter frame that adds style and provides strength to longer shutters (required above a certain height).  The divider rail separates the louvers into two sections which will operate independently, allowing for greater light control.  The default placement for the divider rail is the center of the panel.  It can also be customized to any position, for example, in order to have the divider rails at the same height on the wall where there are shutters in the same room of varying heights.  See the shutter measure and order guide for additional information.

No Divider Rail

No Divider Rail

?

Horizontal section of the shutter frame that adds style and provides strength to longer shutters (required on shutters over 60" in height).  The divider rail separates the louvers into two sections which will operate independently, allowing for greater light control.  Default location is the center of the frame, but can also be customized to match other windows of different heights (specified height may be modified up to 1 1/2" due to louver placement).

?

You may position the divider rail at a custom height, typically to create a uniform look for windows of varying heights in the same room.  Position is specified as a measurement from the bottom of the shutter frame to the desired center of the divider rail.  Actual positioning may vary 1 1/2" due to louver placement.

step 10

Select a hinge color option:

Learn more about hinge color

Shutter panels are affixed to the frame with hinges that can be color-coordinated to shutter color, or of a different color to match other hardware in the home or to provide a decorative accent.

Used on our order forms, the window nickname is one that you assign to the windows in a room.  This helps you keep track of your order when a room has multiple windows.  We recommend including a room name and numbering the windows sequentially (for example, "Bedroom window #2"), but you may use any system you like.
