If you have to break a design rule and hammer a nail in the wall to fasten any hanging cords, err on the side of caution as child safety should never be ignored when dealing with pesky cords. A better choice is to order a FREE retrofit kit from the Window Covering Safety Council, www.windowcoverings.org, to upgrade old blinds and shades. Your window treatments should never have looped cords or chains and no long cords, ever. Go cordless &#8211;\u00a0Switch to the safest window treatment to eliminate dangling or exposed cords. Cordless cellular and roller blinds are the best options but other choices include draperies or shutters.<\/p>\n<p>2. Prevent Unsafe Play &#8211;\u00a0Move all cribs and beds and furniture or playthings away from windows to prevent unsafe climbing, grabbing and playing to preclude any unfortunate accidents.<\/p>\n<p>3. Gone Cords Gone &#8211;\u00a0Keep all cords, if you have to have them, out of reach and out of sight always. No dangling cords, ever, anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>4. Nail It Down &#8211;\u00a0Permanently anchor all continuous cord loops on draperies, verticals and other blinds or shades to the floor or to the wall.<\/p>\n<p>5. Protect them from harm as the unthinkable can happen when you least expect it. Don&#8217;t be tricked by seemingly harmless window shades.
