Chuck out all those dreamy\u00a0design catalogs and with a little ingenuity and fun, you will have the “coolest” place on the block\u00a0to hang out, party down or float away.<\/p>\n

Paint A Rug<\/strong><\/p>\n

Paint a bold, graphic pattern right on your concrete or brick patio floor to mimic a patterned rug, just mask\u00a0out an easy design and with a gallon of outdoor paint and a big paintbrush, your floor will be instantly rocketed\u00a0to a new level.\u00a0 The bigger the pattern, the easier and quicker the painting. If you need some pattern inspiration,\u00a0review Pattern Primers, 1<\/a>, 2<\/a> and 3<\/a> for lots of pattern ideas.\u00a0 Enlist the kids for an afternoon of painting fun.<\/p>\n

Now, you will need some big, cushy floor pillows. Inexpensive pet beds can be re-purposed for human\u00a0lounge cushions to scatter around the patio.\u00a0 Big, comfy cushions are essential for the 3 “R’s of\u00a0summer-reading, relaxing and reminiscing!<\/p>\n

Hang A Hammock<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you need more lounging space, instead of overstuffed, big and bulky decorator (and pricey), perfectly coordinated outdoor\u00a0furniture, just hang up a few hammocks-easy to put up and take down when you need extra space. I am\u00a0partial to the handmade Mayan string hammocks.\u00a0 I have been lounging in them for years and have rocked many\u00a0fussy babies to sleep in these colorful, soothing and snug wonders.<\/p>\n

Redo A Wine Barrel<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wine barrels are a staple at most hardware and garden stores. Turn one of these big barrels upside down for an\u00a0instant coffee table.\u00a0 How easy is that and\u00a0 you can still always use it for a planter or for pillow storage.\u00a0 Paint\u00a0it a bright color for more design style.<\/p>\n

Decorate With Fabrics<\/strong><\/p>\n

Outside curtains<\/a> are the rage this summer and are always a smart\u00a0addition to your patio, but if you like, a vintage tablecloth or decorative sheet can be a creative\u00a0stand-in to enclose your outdoor space for privacy and sun shelter. If you are lucky and can scrounge\u00a0some distressed shutters, or large, mottled picture frames to hang outside for more space style, your\u00a0outdoor area will really strike a pose.<\/p>\n

Hang the basket or a row of baskets, upside down around the patio for your own homemade lantern of\u00a0lights. Your globes of light will cast an unforgettable spell throughout the summer nights.<\/p>\n
