Mount refers to whether the shutter frame will be mounted within the window frame (inside mount) or on the wall surrounding the window (outside mount).

Different frame styles are available for inside or outside mount.  For inside mount shutters, enter the measurement of the window.  Note: A "square" window is required for inside mount shutters, meaning the window must have perfect right angles.  Measure diagonally (upper left to lower right, then upper right to lower left); if the measurements differ by more than 1/2", your window is not square enough for an inside mount.

Generally, outside-mount shutters are the easiest to install.  Note: For outside mount, you must supply the frame to frame measurement (window measurement plus additional space for the frame as directed for the frame style you are ordering).

Width:

The horizontal measurement, taken to the nearest 1/8 of an inch.

Height:

The vertical measurement, taken to the nearest 1/8 of an inch.

Existing Window Sills:

If you have a protruding window sill, certain shutter options and configurations are not available.  These options are automatically removed from selection if "yes" is answered for this question.  This question will help guide you through the shutter ordering process to get the perfect shutter for your window.

Existing Window Molding:

Window molding (also known as window trim) is a decorative fixture found around some windows.  If you want this molding to remain visible, you should answer "yes" to this question, and select an inside mount shutter.  If you do not wish the molding to be visible, and do not want to remove the molding, answer "yes" to this question and select an outside mount shutter; if you plan on removing the molding, answer "no" and select either an inside or outside mount shutter.  If there is no molding, simply answer "no" and select either an inside or outside mount shutter.  See the shutter measure and order guide for additional information.

The shutter frame is the outside edge that attaches to your window or wall; the shutter panels in turn attach to the frame.  The type of frame selected is dependent on the function and style desired; some frame styles double as decorative molding, others are less noticeable, while others provide extra depth to help clear window handles and other obstructions.  Please make sure you have answered the questions regarding your existing window before selecting a frame style.  These questions will help match the appropriate frame to your window.  Please review our shutter measure and order guide for more information.

Number of frame sides that will attach to the shutter.

For each type of shutter you will need to specify how the shutters will attach to the frame and to each other.  When looking at the shutter from inside the home the folds are listed from Left to Right.  L or R designates the side the hinges are located.  For example "LLTRR" means the left two panels are hinged to each other on the left and the right two shutters are hinged to each other on the right hand side; the panel sections are separated by a T Post.  If you have any questions, call us toll-free at (877) 702-5463 and speak with one of our knowledgeable sales staff or read our shutter guide for additional details on panel folds.

Horizontal section of the shutter frame that adds style and provides strength to longer shutters (required above a certain height).  The divider rail separates the louvers into two sections which will operate independently, allowing for greater light control.  The default placement for the divider rail is the center of the panel.  It can also be customized to any position, for example, in order to have the divider rails at the same height on the wall where there are shutters in the same room of varying heights.  See the shutter measure and order guide for additional information.

Shutter panels are affixed to the frame with hinges that can be color-coordinated to shutter color, or of a different color to match other hardware in the home or to provide a decorative accent.

Used on our order forms, the window nickname is one that you assign to the windows in a room.  This helps you keep track of your order when a room has multiple windows.  We recommend including a room name and numbering the windows sequentially (for example, "Bedroom window #2"), but you may use any system you like.
