"BG Sheers vs HD Silhouettes -- Very Good Value"By Save Money from Southwest Virginia on Mar 02, 2009 I''ve installed three of these recently -- 1--5 x 4 window and two 6 x 6 windows in a house with several large Hunter Douglas Silhouette sheers. Very hard to tell a difference -- BGs measure slighter narrower than nominal so you may want to order next wider slat size if it matters to you. Fabric just slightly different in thread count (HD is SLIGHTLY denser) but you can''t tell unless you''re side by side comparing them and colors are indistinguishable. Order the deluxe headrail to match the HDs if that matters; slimmer than the regular headrail. Operation seems identical; performance seems identical. All in all excellent value for the money. Had I known we would have ordered the BG sheers in the first place and not bothered with the Silhouettes. Both SIlhouette and BG sheers are equally easy to install, which is to say mount three brackets and snap them in place. Sometimes they need a slap to lock in -- as do the HDs. More than likely the BGs and the HDs are made by same manufacturer with very small difference in fabric specs. No discernible difference in hardware or design. BGs also come with child safe cord mount attached. Nice touch. HDs don''t. Measure carefully and enjoy. Both the BGs and the Silhouettes are marvelous in concept, acting like gauzy Venetian blinds--when down and fabric slats are horizontal you can see through the sheer fabric but others can''t see in. When slats are tilted they block view both directions. Excellent for screening bright sun without closing off view or for privacy while still seeing out. Overall BGs are great value--MUCH cheaper than the HDs and excellent perfomance.

After much research I choose to go with the sheer shadings from Blinds galore. My husband found the product easy to instal, and we both love the fact that we now have a product to combat our western sun exposure without compromising our view, or the look of our window. |
