Caring for our fragile “spaceship earth” is always at the top of my mind. Products that are sustainable, organic, and good for us are garnering more focus as we realize that the amount of resources on our planet is limited and the more we can do to prolong their use, the better. Concepts like recycling and sustainability have their place in every facet in our lives and window treatments are no exception. We consider it part of our mission at Blindsgalore. We strive to be an environmentally friendly company and we make sure to take these factors seriously when selecting our blinds and shades we offer you.
When sourcing our Blindsgalore products, we are constantly aiming to minimize environmental impact. This is especially true when it comes to protecting our forests and trees and finding responsible wood products. Forests contain some of our most precious resources and there must be an effort to ensure that they are conserved and properly maintained. Many of our wood blinds are made from wood that is harvested through sustainable yield forest management which means that their yield is far below the growth rate.
At Blindsgalore, we want you to love and feel good about your real wood blinds. I have always loved rich wood blinds for their rustic but refined look.
Blindsgalore’s natural woven shades are also crafted from all-natural, renewable sources like grass, jute, and bamboo – no plastic here, only real, organic elements. These raw materials are ready to harvest in as little as 1-5 years and replenish quickly. The roots of these plants are also kept intact to prevent soil erosion. Blindsgalore is always looking for window treatments that not only take the environment into consideration, but also work towards creating a greener future.
Woven woods are on trend and one of our most popular, sought-after window treatments, preferred by many of our designers and bloggers who rave about the texture of the nubbby weaves and the casual yet sophisticated look of the many hand-woven fabrics. Yes, woven wood blinds are custom blended from nature to complement our causal living style.
Eco-friendly designs don’t have to stop at natural window treatments. Cellular shades are a chic, colorful way to decorate your home and provide superior insulation. These pocketed window coverings trap air at your window which help to maintain a constant temperature in your home. Cushioning your windows with cellular shades has also been proven to save you up to 20% off of your heating and air conditioning bills. Not only will your home be greener, but so will your wallet. Whenever possible, our design experts recommend cellular shades not only as a way to save energy but also as a beautiful, minimalist shade that can complement any style of décor.
Loving windows is easy with cellular shades.
Solar shades and screens are also a great way to keep the sun out of your space, which will help cut air conditioning costs during those scorching summer months. Most of our solar screens also carry the Greenguard certification for indoor air quality. The Greenguard Environmental Institute certifies only low-chemical and particle emitting fabrics, which help promote a much healthier quality of air in your home. By holding our products to such high standards, we ensure that our customers, and our environment, will always be protected and your home will always be fresh and the air will stay clear.
Solar shades come in varying degrees of opacity, letting you regulate the “view through” and the temperature control. I have two large sets of patio doors that overlook a lagoon and the Pacific Ocean ( lucky me, even if ocean is a ways away). To preserve my view, I mounted solar shades on the outside of my patio window doors, under an eave to hide the cassette. My shades are also motorized with a solar battery so I never have to replace a battery or wire in the shades. I jiggered up an unusual installation but I love that my windows are totally unobstructed but when the afternoon sun glares through my windows, the shades magically descend to block the sun and the heat or the wind and the chill. At night, with the click of switch, the street lights and neighborhood lights are obscured and even the noise is abated.
I am in sleep heaven with solar shades.
