I Will: 2014

No matter how 2013 treated you, it’s time to ring in the New Year. Like it or not, there’s no stopping it! The idea of starting fresh and unfolding anew is ripe with possibilities. Even if our dreams are not fulfilled, just attempting change and reflecting on ways to deepen and strengthen our lives will propel us forward. For me this year,

I WILL…

Try New Things

I will stay curious but keep it simple as family, work, and the few ways I keep my sanity, leave me just a few spare moments to add to my daily repertoire. Try to stand up and stay on a Paddle board, read a book with a Kindle (aargh, I love the feel of the deckled, thick paper pages of a book), paint one room in my home a daring color, make brioche dough, or finally learn to love Legos.

I WILL…

Get More Sleep

Yes, I know I need more than six hours of sleep. Unlike exercise, sleep requires a minimal amount of work which should make this easy to accomplish, but it always seems beyond my grasp. If I could just unplug and tune out the wired world! You would think I would have a supreme set of blackout shades in my bedroom, but I so crave the moonscapes and sunrises that I put a peaceful slumber in jeopardy… not this year.

I WILL…

Shape Up

The countless tins of cookies I scarfed down during the holidays surely won’t make this easy but it is time to rework all the areas of our life that seem to be, shall we say, sagging or, better yet, holding us back. I not only need to take out the kinks in my body, but my overstuffed recipe box needs to go on a diet, my piles of books are creating a danger zone, my creaking deck needs a visit from Tom Sawyer, and my warped bathroom shade needs a faux-wood makeover.

I WILL…

Do It Myself

There are too many times that I have just assumed a task would be “too hard” or “too complicated” to get it done myself. Even though I pride myself on being a DIYer, I still need to quit complaining, do it myself, and stop psyching myself out of the chance to learn a new skill and gain extra confidence. If you have not tried to measure and install new blinds in your windows, we make it easy for you.

I WILL…

Take Inspiration Breaks

To keep refreshed and be on top of all the tasks and twists that each day throws at us, even if just for a minute a day, step outside of the daily routine to enrich your senses.
