How To Prepare For Blinds Installation

How to Prepare for Blinds Installation

Have you ever thought about installing blinds yourself? It’s way easier than you might expect. Over 99% of our customers measure and install their own custom window treatments. Sure, it might sound intimidating at first, but with a bit of preparation it’s actually pretty easy. Whether you’re looking to install window blinds, custom shades, or even more unique products like skylight or blackout blinds, we have all the tips to get you covered.

Window Blinds Installation: Everything You Need to Know

Knock knock. The moment your blinds arrive at your doorstep, we know you’re going to be excited to install them. Not so fast! First things first, clean up the area where you’ll be working and open your package. Ensure the correct blinds and installation hardware were included. Also, get your tools and materials at the ready. Find a pencil, a steel measuring tape, and an electric drill. You’re going to need them.

The exact process will vary for each brand and type of window treatment, but, for the most part, you’re going to be attaching brackets to your wall or window frame. The headrail of your shades will then clip onto those brackets. This means it’s very important to make sure your brackets are secure and evenly spaced. That also means that once your brackets are up, your window blinds will be quick to follow.

We wholeheartedly recommend following the instructions included with your product over this guide. However, we’re happy to give you a brief overview of the process. Specific instructions for your brand or style of window covering can be found on our installation page. Follow these five simple steps to get started.

5 Steps to Installing Your Window Blinds with Ease

  • 1. Read Your Instruction Manual
It is best to read through the installation instructions completely before to beginning your installation. You’ll also want to ensure these were included in your packaging, along with the necessary hardware.
  • 2. Mount the Brackets
Attach the included mounting brackets to the top of your window frame or wall. Ensure they are equally spaced. We also recommend using a level for this step – you’ll want those brackets to be straight as an arrow.
  • 3. Attach the Headrail
With the brackets in place, it’s time to snap on the headrail. This step will vary from product to product. In most cases, the headrail on your window blinds will click into the grooves on the brackets. You’ll hear it when it happens.
  • 4. Attempt to Operate
With the headrail in place, ensure the blinds or shades are working properly and can close/open as expected. This is also a good time to check the spacing on the brackets and headrail to ensure you are happy with placement.
  • 5. Add the Finishing Touches
The final step is adding any extra finishing touches to your window blinds. This may include adding valances, cord cleats, or even the slats. When it’s all said and done, you’re allowed to take a step back and admire your work.

You’ve just transformed your room with some snazzy new window blinds or custom shades. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the view (and the compliments!)

How Much Does Blinds Installation Cost?

Unfortunately, this is not a one-size-fits-all answer. There are dozens of factors to consider here including your physical location, your window’s location, the product you are installing, and more. That is something you will have to work out with a local professional. Don’t forget about the size of your windows. Bigger windows could mean more blinds and more work, which will affect cost. Your actual cost of installation will absolutely vary depending on your project, so it’s a smart move to get a quote from a professional installer for a clearer picture of what you’ll be spending. Again, we recommending always giving it a shot yourself first.

How Much Do Blinds Plus Installation Cost?

Once again, there is no simple answer here. The price of the blinds or shades themselves will vary quite a bit depending on what style and size you’re shopping. Not all blinds are created equal. From skylight blinds and to those handy cordless mini blinds, roller blinds, honeycomb blinds, and even blackout blinds – they all come with their own installation nuances. State-of-the-art features like motorization will also impact the price. Then, there’s the cost of having them professionally installed, which can vary as I’ve explained. It’s a difficult thing to estimate. The one price that doesn’t change, however, is the cost of doing it yourself. That’s free. The satisfaction of a job well done is just an added bonus.

Thinking about getting custom blinds? Great choice! That’s what we’re all about. They’re perfect for fitting your windows just right and giving your space that personal touch. Custom blinds are the best choice for a perfect fit and a perfect look.
