How To Layer Pillows

How To Layer Pillows

Adding pillows to any couch, bed, chair or any “lounge lizard” spot is a fun way to poke simple design into any room. Since we all love to scatter pillows in our homes for extra punch, we just created at Blindsgalore throw pillows that match the fabrics in our Bali custom drapery and the tailored roman shades. You will also be able to coordinate pillows with our Blindsgalore Signature drapery panels. With so many fresh new pillow choices, your shades and draperies can be instantly accessorized for a perfect match. Be sure to check out our new pillow collection. Wherever you like to shop for your favorite pillows, you do know that pillows are meant to be layered and flourish when mixed and matched.  Don’t let this simple design technique intimidate you. Follow my four rules and your pillows will never shout at you, but will happily hang out anywhere you put them.

1.  First, go tonal and textural as a base, selecting one base color. Choose pillows in a neutral palette with small designs and build up from these soft and monochromatic tones.

2.  Now, add some color but keep the color in your main palette but mix and match the shades of this color to create variety and depth as you add pillows through the color spectrum of your one chosen color.

3.  Get bolder now and add contrast with graphic patterns or a painterly design. Using a stripe and adding a subtle flowery or abstract design always works. This is where the fun begins as you add splashes, splotches, dots.

4.  Now choose one or two much bolder pillows, whether in scale of the design (big) or select a darker, brighter color. When you, now, introduce a design with many colors, try to find at least one common thread color that matches your main color theme so that all the pillows will tie beautifully together. Just a hint of similar colors makes your pillow canvas look professional. Fluff up the pillows, sit back and savor the view.

What I also love about a pillow collection is that you can swap out pillows during the holidays, seasons and special celebrations for an instant update or build a theme.

You can now use these four simple rules to become your own designer to make your room harmonize. Not only will your pillows talk, they will sing!

If you are feeling a pillow crush coming on, always take the chance to break the rules and have a pillow frenzy.
