French Door Blinds & French Door Window Treatments
- Consider door shape and position of handles
- Pick shallow treatments that hang close to the door
- 1" wood blinds and roller shades are ideal
- Hold down brackets are good for regularly shut shades
- Choose cordless for a sleek look and easy control
French doors have decorative handles that could interfere with the operation of door blinds or shades, so you'll want to choose a window treatment that is not very deep with an outside mount. If you plan on regularly raising and lowering your shade, go cordless to avoid getting cords tangled up on the door handle while also increasing child and pet safety. If you plan on leaving the shade down, you should select the hold down brackets when customizing your blind. These are installed on the door to keep the bottom of the shade in place.

French Doors FAQ
There are many categories from which to choose when deciding on the right window covering for French doors. Cellular shades, roller shades, and thin traditional blinds are all popular choices that can be customized to perfectly match your decorating style and lifestyle. We recommend ordering free samples to see your favorites up-close-and-personal or start customizing online using our blind builder.
Almost any style of window covering will work to enhance the beauty of your French door. We recommend 1-inch wood blinds, cellular, solar or roller shades. When deciding which window covering would best, there are a few factors to consider. As always, our customer care team is available for you online or over the phone if you have any questions.
Ideally, you’ll want something thin that hangs close to the glass on your door. A cordless lift is likely going to be ideal for a clean, clutter-free look. You should also make note of the position and size of your door handles, as those could obstruct your window covering. Also, consider including hold down brackets for shades that will remain shut regularly to help keep the shade in place.
All of our products at Blindsgalore are completely custom, down to the eighth of an inch, so the sizing will depend on your specific French door and the area you would like to cover. Make sure to account for the door handles and if there is any molding around the glass of your French door. If you have questions about measuring or which window treatment would work best in your space, don’t hesitate to contact our customer care experts.
customer reviews for french doors
"Love them"
By Gippernbill from Arizona
We have 3 remote controlled solar screens for some large windows and we love them. Work great, easy to operate, and look great. They almost disappear when up and stylish when down.

We got the automatic 97 percent Light filtering solar shades. Awesome. Have direct light reflecting off of water and they are perfect. Can see the view (slightly distorted) but not the blinding light. The way the fabric sits, the bottom edge trim, the automatic operation, its beautiful. The programming was a little frustration because I was having issues following the instructions. I found a YOUTUBE video from Comfortex that has a step that the written instructions do not have. Programmed 5 shades onto a single remote but struggling to get 2 windows to operate on the same channel even though I'm following the detailed instructions. Going to call for support. These are a significant upgrade from the Blinds Galore solar product.
